โจ The universe - less than 6 degrees separation - music - welcoming people , a convention to remember !
Over the weekend, I was at the Malaysian Association of Professional Speakers convention in PJ Hilton ๐ฒ๐พ.
Iโll remember this convention due to a few key reasons :
1. Got to listen, meet and then sit next to The Flying Doctor, Tan Sri Mani Jegathesan who I heard about in my childhood. He was part of the Golden Era of athletes in Malaysia and at the age of 80 is still actively contributing back to the community.
2. Bumped into Uma Balchand after 25 years. She was a Carnatic music student of my late aunt Srimathi Vijayalakshmi. I remember putting the tallam while hearing her and her brother sing in the 80s and 90s in KL. She has just written and launched her 1st book - The Turning Point at the MAPS Convention. She was part of the MAPS Writing workshop. Canโt wait to read her short stories.
3. Met Darren Lo who now works closely with my PWC ICAEW batch mate from Sept 1998, Jessica Law BFP FCA . He also co-wrote his first book focussed on HR & Excel and launched it thanks to the MAPS Writing workshop and opportunities to collaborate.
4. Enjoyed being the backup singer for the glamorous LORA DASH (another author - book : Makeup has no Rules) at the Glitz & Glam MAPS Gala dinner. Got to sing one of my favourite Sheila Majidโs tunes, Sinaran.
5. Last but not least met other warm, welcoming and friendly individuals within the speaking community from different states of Malaysia. Also Singapore, Maldives, India, UK, The Netherlands, Australia, and Russia.
๐๐พ๐๐ฝ๐๐ผ Well done to the organising committee of the convention led by Sumathi Krishnan !
